TRAVAUX ISO - SIX SIGMA

PLENARY ISO SIX SIGMA 2010 (FRANCE)

Gap analysis :

The gap analysis, performed during PAG meeting, has underlined the following items :

  • Regression,
  • Benchmark,
  • Lean Six Sigma,
  • Contingency tables / Chi-Square tests,
  • Identification of distribution (any type),
  • Anova,
  • Methodology of MSA

The gap analysis is a comparison between the BOK (Body Of Knowledge) from the ASQ (American Society for Quality) and the TC69 technical background. This means that those seven items are mentionned by the BOK but not developped by the SC7. And there must be.

Six Sigma terminology :

Six Sigma method is linking the world of statisticians with the world of business practitioners. The transition between theoretical significance and practical usage is one of the key issues in describing the good practices that will compose the future standard. In this critical transition phase, terminology is playing a central role and it has been decided that it  will be addressed by all convenors and managed at the SC7 level.

Relation with Robust Design :

An official liaison is established with the SC8 “Robust design”, a sub committee managed by Japan.

New work items for SC7:

These are the consequences of the gap analysis, the group discussion and the results of the votes :

  • Contingency tables
  • Benchmarking methodology in Six Sigma

New preliminary work for SC7:

As for the New Work Items :

  • Standard on methodology of MSA,
  • Recommendations on Lean Six Sigma,

SC7 road map for the three coming year :

  • DFSS,
  • Six Sigma implementation,
  • Auditing standard for Six Sigma,
  • Certification standard for Six Sigma (company and personnel).

To get closer to the markets :

Surveys :

Le TC69 is establishing a liaison with the TC225 for the surveys. In general, the TC69 statistical expertize will be more devoted to market researches and surveys.

Quality Function Deployment :

QFD (Quality Function Deployment) is introduced in the working area of SC8, Robust Design. It underlines the design for customer request. The whole information life cycle is established in order to manage the customer request.

QFD is underlining the importance of the functional analysis step, where the customer request is translated into functional specifications.

What is the function needed to reply to the customer request?

Than, after, how do we perform this function?

Six Sigma Seminar :

During this TC69 plenary, NUMERAL ADVANCE and AFNOR sponsored the seminar on the following theme :

Six Sigma: a multi-industry and worlwide comparison of practices and the role of international standards.

  • Why does a unique concept and methodology like Six Sigma appear to be deployed differently across industries and cultural back ground?
  • Do the multiple interpretations of Six Sigma present a risk to implement the methodology or on the contrary an opportunity to strengthen its core concept?
  • What is the role of standardisation in Six Sigma?
